SECRET SANTA

I am once again joining Christmas in July  organised by Cheryll. I have now finished the first of the 3 handmade items we have to make.  It's a table topper and made with combination of fabric and felt.  It didn't take too long to make and I'm happy with the finished project.

ANZAC DAY 2015

Celebrating ANZAC Day 2015 and 100 years landing at Gallipoli.  

 

Friday buying my ANZAC badge from an Aussie Hero.

Saturday morning Rebecca and I attended the Dawn Service and re-enactment at Jack Evans Boat Harbour, Tweed Heads.  We arrived at 3.50am and there were already lots of people there, we found ourselves a nice little pozzie, it started just over an hour later, by that time there were thousands of people there. The re-enactment was done so well and it was soooo loud. 

I also managed to make my traditional ANZAC biscuits.

I also managed to squeeze in sewing a quilt top for an active serving Aussie Hero. It was a very big day.

SEW SWEET SIMPLICITY BOM

 

I am so happy with my sewing on the weekend, I managed to complete the quilt top of Jacquelynne

Steves "Sew Sweet Simplicity" BOM.  YAY and I'm so happy with the end result, it took me so long to select my fabrics as I always doubt myself with my fabric choices.  Now to find a backing fabric, quilt and binding, all of which I am hoping to do over the Easter Holidays.  I put my glasses at the top of the quilt just to give an indication of the size of the quilt.

ENGAGEMENT CELEBRATION

Saturday 14th March 2015 we celebrated Kate & Josh's Engagement. It was held at Josh's parents place, they have 5 acres of land so it was a great venue.  We hired a big marquee, trestle tables and chairs. We organised the food ourselves, catering for 110 guests that had accepted the invitation however only 85 arrived on the night.  Soooo, needless to say we had quite a bit of food left over which was okay as we all had lunches and dinners for a week. 

The cake which Kate organised through COSTCO, I can recommend to anyone to buy a celebration cake from COSTCO, it was really delicious and under $30.

It was a wonderful afternoon/night.  They received some gorgeous gifts along with cash and gift cards as well.

CYCLONE MARCIA

My home town is Rockhampton and many of my family and friends suffered from Marcia's havoc. You would have seen these photos no doubt time and again on TV.  My Mum was without electricity for 13 days and her yard had a lot of destruction with a 45 year old Wisteria tree ripped out of the ground and split in two and wrecked most of her front yard, Mum is so upset, she loves her gardens. Thankfully though the tree fell away from the house and no damage to the house. It was mentally upsetting for her having no power for that time at the weather conditions so hot and not being able to sleep at night etc.  Our niece lives at Zilzie which is a very small coastal community and they sustained quite a bit of damage to their house. One of Stephen's cousins and his wife live at Keppel Sands, another small coastal community, their house suffered extensive damage and the insurance company (Youi) have "written off" their house so they are getting a new house built..  They are so impressed with Youi and would recommend them to anyone, they said that Youi have been so marvellous and also someone phones them every second day checking up on their well being so emotionally that is so wonderful as well.  I am just so grateful that no one received any personal injuries though.
