QUILT FOR A FRIEND

Last year a friend lost her Mother and after they cleaned out the house I was given a couple of bags of fabrics, zips and other bits and bobs. She asked if I'd make her a lap quilt from her Mum's fabrics as a remembance so I carefully sorted through the fabrics and decided the best pattern to incorporate a few of the fabrics would be a disappearing nine patch. I decided to make it the size I make the quilts for Aussie Heroes as I'm used to that size. I completed the quilt the last week in April.
In this photo I have cut all of the squares and placed them in the pattern I wanted.

In this photo I have sewn all of the blocks together

This photo is of course the quilt top sewn together after cutting the blocks and placing together.

Here is the quilt fully made, quilted and binding done. I usually just machine sew the binding on when making the Aussie Hero quilts as it's so much quicker and also more durable.  However I hand sewed the binding on this quilt and it took me 5-1/2 hours one night - finishing at 1/2 hour past midnight.

This is the back of the quilt, the strip of fabric in the middle was one piece of fabric and I just added the green either side which is also in the quilt top.

I also made a draw string bag for the quilt using some of the same fabric which was also in the quilt top.

My friend loves her quilt and has recently had an operation and the quilt was a wonderful comfort for her.

DRESS A GIRL AROUND THE WORLD

I made these 5 skirts for some teenage girls at a Christian College in Papua New Guinea.
A friend gave me a LARGE bag of fabrics and other items from her Mother's Estate, I found this lovely fabric and thought they'd make perfect skirts for these girls.

HERO LAUNDRY BAGS

I've been busy making Aussie Hero laundry bags over the last couple of months.

The first 6 have been sent to Darwin to be given to Navy personal in patrol boats keeping our waters safe.

These next four I sent over to the Middle East to our deployed Heroes.

Have a great weekend everyone.
