LATEST QUILT AND LAUNDRY BAG FINISHES

I have been busy recently making a quilt and laundry bag for 2 deployed Aussie Hero's.  I really enjoyed making this disappearing 9 patch quilt, it is a little fiddly cutting all the squares and sewing them together but I just love the end result and it looks more time consuming than it actually is. I added the Aussie touches in the corners with the Aussie flag fabric and also the embroidered Kangaroos.

This is one side of the laundry bag with the Australian flag and also some Aussie themed fabric around it.

This is the other side of the laundry bag, I have incorporated a Byron Bay souvenir linen tea towel and some Aussie themed fabric around it.

This partially wonky block will be incorporated with other wonky blocks (made by other ladies in the Aussie Hero Quilts and Laundry Bags group) being made into a mystery quilt for a Hero. I think I need some lessons in making wonky blocks LOL.... oh well, at least I used the correct colours with the red and white and the black and white fabrics.

LAUNDRY BAG FOR A HERO

I had this spare laundry bag made up sitting in the cupboard. Jan-Maree of Aussie Hero Quilts and Laundry Bags put a list up last week with the latest requests for quilts and laundry bags so I put his initials on the laundry bag Sunday morning and am sending it off to a deployed hero this week.

I made this block a couple of weeks back which will be incorporated into a mystery quilt for someone.

LISA and FABIAN'S WEDDING

We travelled to Airlie Beach to attend our only niece's Wedding on Saturday 5th October 2013.  Everything was perfect, I am so proud of my niece, she did a spectacular job of all the arrangements for the Wedding.  The setting was so perfect at Coral Cove Resort, Airlie Beach, right on the Pacific Ocean.
My beautiful Kate was one of the 6 bridesmaids, I started crying as soon as I saw her all dressed and looking absolutely stunning, I can't imagine what I'll be like when it's her turn to wear a gorgeous white dress....  I will have to try and get some great waterproof makeup....

Lisa my niece looking so gorgeous and Tommy her Dad.

The happy couple after the ceremony "Kissing The Bride"

Lisa and Fabian.

The six bridesmaids and the flower girl, pretty little maids all in a row......

The Best Man and five Groomsmen, four of these guys are Beano's brothers and two good friends. Beano is one of eleven children, Beano being the third eldest.  There are eight boys and three girls.  I was talking to his Mum after the ceremony and she said - only two left to get married.

Grandad with his three Grand children.

Lisa with her favourite Aunty and Uncle.

Stephen and Moi...

Our youngest - Rebecca and her boy friend, Drew.

Nicky is Lisa's (the Bride) Mum, with her Dad and two brothers.  I can't believe the three guys all have blue shirts on and it wasn't planned.

Kate and her partner, Josh.

Awwww Kate and her Daddy...

Awwww Kate and her Mummy.....

Our two gorgeous girls....... I love this photo.

Kate and Courtney.

The table settings were just amazing.

This was the sweets table, we all had little boxes and packets to fill....  The theme was Pink and White if you haven't already guessed....  All the sweets were pink and white..... Except there were also maltese's, I don't know how they snuck in ummmmm......

The Bridal party, WOW it's the biggest Bridal party I have ever seen, fourteen and no room for
the parents....

The happy couple

The Bridal dance....

The favourite Aunty and uncle enjoying all of the festivities.

And lastly the spectacular view which was the back drop for the ceremony. The weather was absolutely glorious, you couldn't have asked for a nicer afternoon/evening.

The food was so good, the menu was an alternate drop for all three courses, I had a read through and picked what I wanted and said to Stephen - this is what I want so we're swapping if I get the other....
BUT we didn't have to swap - the universe was smiling on me - I was given everything I wanted....
ahhhhh it was the most wonderful afternoon/evening, we all had the best time and everything went off without any problems occurring.  Although I found out later in the night the Groom nearly didn't have a Wedding ring.  Earlier in the day some of the groomsmen decided to take a photo of Fabian's Wedding ring and put it on the railing of the balcony outside their room which overlooked the pool not far from where the ceremony was to be held.  Some how the ring fell off the railing and ended up in the pool so the guys ran down stairs and jumped into the pool clothes and all to retrieve the ring, lucky they did, phew.....

Have a great weekend everyone.

AIRLIE BEACH HOLIDAY 4-9 OCTOBER 2013

Today I will share just a few photos of our trip to Airlie Beach, the first couple of photos I took are of cane fields along the way as we were driving, I am surprised they came out so well and not blurry.

Yay after driving over 1,000 klms we arrived at our destination.  We did it in two stages, the first stage was from Caboolture to Gladstone.  I caught the train after work on Thursday 3rd October to Caboolture and Stephen picked me up and we were off, we arrived in Gladstone at around 10.45pm.  We stayed the night with our daughter and left her place at 8.30am Friday morning 4th October. Rebecca and her boy friend followed us in their car, we were hoping to arrive at Airlie mid afternoon however Rebecca wanted to buy a dress for the Wedding - our main purpose going to Airlie was for my Niece's Wedding.  We stopped off at a shopping centre in Mackay for a couple of hours and finally arrived at Airlie Beach around 5.15pm.

Every Saturday morning there are markets on the Esplanade, it was a great markets, I walked around by myself for a couple of hours, I bought some home made Rosella Jam which has all been consumed now.

I also bought some lovely home made mango and passionfruit sorbet, it was so delicious.

After the markets we went for a drive to Shute Harbour which is a beautiful scenic area.
Saturday afternoon was the Wedding which was wonderful, I will do a post and share photos of the Wedding in the next few days.

We went fishing on Tuesday morning and my legs got so burnt, they are now peeling and I have been constantly rubbing cream into them.

We stayed at Airlie Cove Caravan Park and resort. It was a great spot, here is a photo of our little  cabin we stayed in for 5 nights.  The cabin is the white area in between the brown. It was tiny but very clean and enough for what we needed. There was a room with a bed and a TV and a bath room with a shower and a toilet.

We set off from Airlie on Wednesday 9th October.  When we were kids my Maternal Grandmother lived in Mackay, as I don't know when we will be up this way again I wanted to do a drive by and take a photo.  It has been 38 years since I had been to this house and to Mackay and I directed Stephen to it like I had been there last week.  It looks a little different to 38 years ago but basically similar and brought back some great memories for me.

Continuing on our drive South to home we stopped off in Rockhampton, old home town for both of us as were both born and raised here.   This is my Mum's house, we stayed for two hours and had a chat and a cup of tea.

We drove as far as Gladstone on our first leg towards home arriving about 5.30pm, our daughter was home from work, we went out to dinner and stayed the night.  These two gorgeous animals are my daughter's fur babies,  the black dog is Kendrick he is 8 months old and the brown dog is Nala she is near 4 months old.

We set off again on Thursday 10th October around 8.15am when Rebecca left for work, we drove to Narangba north of Brisbane where our daughter Kate lives and stayed the night with her.  We finally arrived home at the Tweed around 9am on Friday 11th October after doing 2,700 klms. It was a wonderful week, keep an eye out in the next few days for the Wedding photos.

Cheers

AIRLIE BEACH - HERE WE COME

My only niece is being married this Saturday at Airlie Beach, we are doing a road trip starting today. I will catch the train after work today to Caboolture (1 hour north of Brisbane) so we will be on the road by 4.30pm, we will drive to Gladstone for the first leg and hoping to arrive there between 10.30 - 11.00pm tonight. Stay the night with Rebecca (our daughter) and her partner, tomorrow (Friday) morning we will drive in separate cars to Airlie beach, we are hoping to be on the road by 7am for the second leg of our trip which should be another 6-7 hours. Kate (our eldest daughter) and her partner are en route as we speak, they are on a plane to Airlie Beach via Proserpine.  Kate is one of her 5 bridesmaids and they are having a hens night tonight at Airlie.  Rebecca and Drew will head back to Gladstone on  Sunday, Kate and Josh will head back to Brisbane on Monday.  Meanwhile Stephen and I have decided to turn the trip into a little holiday as we haven't been away for several years, we will stay till Wednesday.  We will be doing some fishing, sight seeing and relaxing.
Here is a couple of maps for those of you who haven't heard of Airlie Beach and don't know where it is. It is quite a famous spot in Queensland and you can visit many coastal Islands from Airlie.

I have also found a few photos (through internet) to show you a little of the area.

I will post photos of our trip upon our return.

Cheers
