I finished my first quilt for "Aussie Hero Quilt and Laundry Bags" on the weekend, I did machine binding on it and quilted it. I am not a quilter so it's very basic, it's the first time I have done a machine binding on a quilt and it was so quick and easy, love it, I will be doing this again and it's so much sturdier than the hand stitched way.
This is the front of the quilt, a disappearing 9 patch.
This is the back of the quilt. Quilt backing fabric is so expensive, I was in Spotlight 2 weeks ago and they had a sale on quilt covers so I had a bright idea that I could get two quilt backings out of one quilt cover, I bought one disney print - "Tinkerbell" for $15 and two others for $10 each. I am so excited as there is enough to get two quilt backs and also enough fabric for the binding in one quilt set.
This is the laundry bag front, I love it with the Aussie Flag and the fabric with the Aussie animals.
This is the back of the Laundry Bag.
I posted off this quilt and laundry bag to a female Aussie Hero just being deployed to Afghanistan.
I hope this will give her a little comfort having a little piece of Australia to remind her of home.
Cheers

ReplyDeleteFabulous sewing and such a great idea to use the Donna covers-clever you.
ReplyDeleteKaylee, you've done a brilliant job of the sewing - and what a great idea to use the quilt covers as backing, good economy there.
