SHOPPING SHOPPING AND MORE SHOPPING

Recently my friend and I went to Harbour Town (outlet shopping) at the Gold Coast and we did a little shopping.....   We were shopping for 6-1/2 hours, our feet were in pain and our trolley was full , not to mention our credit cards a bit worn out, so it was time to head home. We had a fantastic day shopping without whinging whining men telling us to hurry up....

This is just a few of the items I purchased.

SURPRISE

If you regularly visit my BLOG you will know I sew laundry bags and quilts for Aussie Hero Quilts and Laundry Bags .  Last Friday I received an envelope in the mail from the "Department of Defence", inside was a lovely letter and a coin.
I sew laundry bags and quilts for our troops to show appreciation for everything they are doing and I feel extremely honoured to be doing so.  I certainly don’t do it for accolades or to receive anything in return however when I received this letter and coin in the mail I was very touched by this gesture and a little teary, I must admit, plus it is nice to know that our work is appreciated.
I would love to have more time to make more quilts and laundry bags than I currently am for our wonderful guys and gals however I work 5 days/week 120 klms away from where I live and the commute is quite hectic so my home time is very valuable.

This is the letter, the Major General wrote everyone's names and signed the letters himself personally which I can appreciate is time consuming considering the huge job he has.

Commander Joint Task Force 633 Coin..

Last weekend I hemmed the sides and bottom of 6 meters of lace for a sliding door.  It was over 2 metres in length, there was lace everywhere...

BARGAINS

Last Wednesday was a Public Holiday in Brisbane for the Royal Brisbane Show aka The EKKA.  I made it a loooong weekend and took Thursday and Friday as annual leave days so I could get some extra things done at home as well as having a break from work. On Wednesday I went for a drive to Spotlight to see if I could pick up any bargains.  I managed to buy a single bed and double bed quilt cover sets for $5 each, I thought they'd come in real handy to make linings for the laundry bags so I didn't care what prints they were.

I managed to cut out 5 linings for with some left over pieces. I haven't cut out the double bed
one yet, I'm hoping to get at least 8 from the double bed set..

Here are the 5 bag linings which I sewed up on Friday just ready to make up some laundry bags.

LAUNDRY BAGS

I started these a couple of weeks back and managed to complete the sewing of these bags yesterday to send to Aussie Hero's on deployment.  I will be posting these off sometime this week after I thread the cord through the top of the bag.

I know the initials of one of the recipients (above), I have added patches on the bottom two bags and they can put their initials on them with a marker pen if they wish.
