AUSTRALIA DAY WEEKEND

Australia Day 2014 is now behind us. We had a lovely "out of the blue" surprise visit Saturday lunch time, my gorgeous daughter Kate and her friend Karly, they stayed the night and left mid morning Australia Day.  The guys went camping, as it was raining the girls didn't want to go camping in the rain - wise girls, they visited us instead so I was very happy with that.

In the afternoon when they left I sat at my sewing machine and made up 2 Poppy blocks for Aussie Hero Quilts (and Laundry Bags).  I also have another 4 cut out ready to be sewn. If you follow the link you will see what is being done with these blocks.

I also made an Aussie damper, we ate it warm out of the oven with butter, it was so delicious.

GIFTS FROM POLAND

My friend and work colleague of 17 years holidayed in Poland for 3 weeks over the Christmas/New Year period and she always bring me back the most amazing gifts.

So this trip I receive a wall hanging of a typical Polish kitchen from "Zakopane"

A gorgeous hand made, hand crocheted doily which Ania purchased from a market place.

Some gorgeous "traditional" Polish fabric, it's not cotton, I won't be using this for craft projects, not sure what I will use this for - yet !!!

This gorgeous little lamp comes from Dubai airport which was their stop over on the return trip.  I have been rubbing it constantly however nothing has happened so far, unfortunately... It is a heavy little lamp and the lid comes off as well.

FINISH HERO QUILT

YAY, so I managed to bind this quilt on Saturday morning, I am very happy with the end result. The top section of the quilt is done in post and rail blocks using 3 different Aussie fabrics. This quilt will be heading over to Kandahar this week and hopefully it arrives to the recipient in time to be useful for the winter.

Here is a close up of the appliqued Kangaroo's and some of the different quilting I did on the quilt.

Ahhhhh another one to add to the list.

LATEST QUILT AND MACHINE QUILTING

I have been working on a new quilt for an Aussies Hero, his request was for an Aussie theme, I got out all of my Aussie themed fabric I could find and also appliqued some Kangaroos, I hope he will like it.  I started it before Christmas and finished the quilt top while I was on Christmas/New Year annual leave.  Two weekends ago I sandwiched it together ready for the quilting.

Last weekend I managed to complete the machine quilting on the quilt, this is the very first time for me to do some "stippling" on a quilt, ummm I think I need a lot more practice, although I was getting the hang of it by the time I finished... I only did the stippling on the cream back ground fabric I used for the Applique Kangaroos.

I will be machine binding the quilt this weekend, I opt to machine bind all of the quilts for our Aussie Heroes as it's a much sturdier method plus it's a much quicker method as well - I need to post the quilt next week as it will be travelling quite a distance - Kandahar. I am hoping it reaches it's destination while it is still winter so our hero gets some good use out of it.

CHRISTMAS 2013

We are already into the middle of the first month of 2014 and I am finally posting my photos of Christmas 2013...... They have been taken with my phone and some are a little blurry.
A photo of the tree with all of the pressies under and around the tree.

Kate with her gorgeous big smile as always.

Rebecca excited after opening all of her pressies.

Moi with one of my pressies.

The table awaiting food and people.

Everything didn't make it into the photo, oh gee I could have closed the pantry door, oh well just keeping it real....

We used my "special" crockery and the good Strachan Silver cutlery which hasn't been used since
Christmas 2012.  We were also given a really lovely cutlery set for our Engagement (over 35 years ago), I used to use it every Christmas so I am thinking this year I am going to use it as our everyday cutlery set, it's like brand new, we may as well get some use out of it.

I ALWAYS make Christmas pudding but this year decided on trifle as Stephen and I are the only ones that eat the Christmas pudding.  The trifle was a hit and well received by everyone.

Kate's partner, Josh, hates having his photo taken, I surprised him - that's why he isn't smiling....
